PROVINCE ANNOUNCES $194,000 INVESTMENT TO SUPPORT 38 HERITAGE PROJECTS - See News Release: news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.html?item=54380&posted=2022-05-09
The next intake for the Heritage Grant Program closes on June 1.
The Manitoba government is investing more than $194,000 through the Heritage Grant Program to support 38 projects throughout the province, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Andrew Smith announced today.
“Our government is proud to support effective, sustainable projects that identify, protect and interpret the province's human and natural heritage,” said Smith. “This funding allows community groups and not-for-profit organizations to complete these important initiatives, which honour and preserve Manitoba's history for future generations.”
The minister noted all 38 applications submitted to the January 2022 intake are receiving grants. The funding will support museum collection and exhibit projects, archives work, historical research, archeological investigations, website development, films, education initiatives, commemorations and interpretive projects. Of the five projects related to Indigenous history, three focus on reconciliation.
Not-for-profit community organizations can apply for up to 50 per cent of their project’s total expenses. Grants in this intake range from $500 to more than $10,000, depending on the size and scope of the heritage project. Program categories include collections management, conservation, exhibitions, programs, interpretive signs, research and special initiatives.

INDIGENOUS WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM - April 25, 2022
Community Futures North Central Development (CFNCD) is pleased to announce the launch of the Indigenous Women’s entrepreneurship Program in northern Manitoba. The program is part of the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA) initiative to provide training, resources, and funding to Indigenous women wanting to start or expand a business.
“It’s important that customized programs and financing is available to northern Indigenous women, ensuring that they have access to equitable services,” says CFNCD’s chairperson, Glen Flett. “Our hope is that we can reduce barriers for women entrepreneurs and support the economic prosperity of Indigenous businesses in the
north.”
Training and resources will include various business workshops during the year that will be delivered both online and in-person in various communities throughout the north. One-on-one training and support will also be available to help provide women entrepreneurs with the skills needed to plan, operate and grow their businesses.
The micro-lending part of the program will provide women with access to loans of up to $20,000, with a portion of the loan being a non-repayable contribution, or in other words, a grant.
Michelle Pruder, the Business Support Officer for the program, wants to remind women that they can start small. “Even if you just have a spark of an idea, allow yourself to dream and explore the possibilities. It doesn’t have to be a big venture that will cost thousands of dollars. It can be small and maybe it is something you are already doing informally but want to expand on. You can start a small home or online based business that fits into your schedule, is manageable for you, and provides you with an income. There are so many ideas, possibilities and opportunities!”
