Winter Fisher Helper Training- Information and Applications

The Communities Economic Development Fund in partnership with Manitoba Skills and Employment is pleased to announce funding for another year of the Winter Fisher Helper program. This program seeks to employ commercial fishing helpers for a period of two weeks. In those two weeks, the helper will be trained and mentored by a licensed commercial fisher who will receive a subsidy in return. Learning categories are categorized into four groups which are traditional knowledge, fishing, icing and safety.

To be eligible as a Fisher Trainer the commercial fisher must hold a valid commercial fishing license and a valid FFMC#

To be eligible as a Fisher Helper, trainees must be 18 years or older and be unemployed, underemployed, or receiving social assistance If there are any questions, interest from your community members and local commercial fishers to participate in the Winter Fisher Helper program please contact me at 204-307-0355 or by email at sthethy@cedf.mb.ca
